Pakistan underlines need of limiting global warming

At the United Nations, Pakistan has underlined the need of limiting global warming and leveraging climate finance to maximize synergies between climate action, development and conflict prevention.

Addressing the UN Security Council Arria-Formula meeting on climate finance, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Munir Akram said unless we act, climate change will jeopardize land, water, resources and jobs, and perhaps exacerbate conflicts.

He said climate finance should be deployed to build sustainable infrastructure, including energy, transport in developing countries as part of efforts to meet mitigation and sustainable development targets.

The Ambassador urged developed countries to fulfill their pledge of 100 billion dollars per year in climate finance to support the needs of developing nations.
