Pakistan High Commission participates in International Spring Fair at Kensington Town Hall

London, May 14, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan High Commission London participated in the International Spring Fair and Food Festival organized by Children and Families across Borders (CFAB) held at the Kensington Town Hall on 12-13 May 2015. A large number of locals and nationals of various countries attended the fair including Princess Alexandra.

Led by Mrs Sadaf Abbas, wife of the High Commissioner, the spouses of the High Commission’s officers organized the stall and other cultural activities at the fair. The objective was to introduce locals to Pakistani culture through handicrafts and cuisine and to raise funds for the CFAB charity.

The traditional hand embroidered shawls, clothes, traditional khusas and jewellery were greatly admired by the visitors. The High Commission’s food stall proved very popular, where visitors enjoyed rich Pakistani cuisine particularly Biryani and sweetmeats. Truck art of Pakistan was another attraction for the visitors.

Princess Alexandra also visited Pakistan High Commission’s stall and saw with keen interest the specimens of cultural heritage of Pakistan. She was presented with a souvenir as well. At this occasion, Pakistani folk singer Shahid Lohar, who is the grandson of great Pakistani folk singer Alam Lohar, gave a wonderful performance and spellbound the visitors. He also sang famous Jugni and received thunderous applause from the crowd.

H.E. Syed Ibne Abbas, Pakistan High Commissioner to the UK commended the efforts of the spouses of High Commission’s officers for actively promoting Pakistan’s culture and traditional products through participation in local community events.

The funds raised have been donated to the Children and Families across Borders (CFAB), a UK-based charity working for the protection and promotion of the rights of children and vulnerable adults across international borders. Over 80 diplomatic missions took part in the event.
