OIC reaffirms support for Ankara as Turks mark 2nd anniversary of failed coup bid

The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) reiterated the OIC's support for Turkey on the second anniversary of the July 15 coup attempt, as Turkish people commemorate the martyrs of the failed military putsch.

In commemoration of the Day of Democracy, National Unity and Martyrs of 15 July 2016, the General Secretariat of OIC reiterated the Organization's stand on its strong condemnation of the failed coup attempt in Turkey and its full support for Ankara in facing future challenges, the OIC said in a statement on Sunday.

OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef Ahmed Al-Othaimeen recalled the resolution adopted by the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) during its 43rd session in October 2016, by which the OIC member states reiterated their full support and solidarity with the government and people of Turkey in their fight against Fethullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), as the perpetrator of the coup attempt, to ensure justice, security and unity, read the statement.

The Secretary General further wished the people and government of Turkey, the current Chair of the OIC Summit, more success in addressing challenges facing the country under the wise leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, it added.
