OIC calls upon Afghan govt, Taliban for negotiations

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has called upon Afghan government and the Taliban to sit on the negotiating table for peace in Afghanistan.

The OIC made this appeal in the declaration issued after the two-day International Ulema Conference for Peace and Security in Afghanistan concluded in Saudi Arabia today (Wednesday).

The OIC declaration affirmed that the suicide attacks targeting innocent people and intestine killings among Muslims are prohibited in Islam.

The declaration urged Muslim scholars across the globe to stand against the advocates of violence and extremism, in defense of their religion and in preservation of their Islamic Ummah's unity.

The OIC also called on the Taliban to respond to the invitation made by the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani for talks.

Participants of the conference also thanked Saudi Arabia for its efforts in favour of establishing peace and security in Afghanistan and to ensure an environment conducive to peaceful negotiations to end fighting and bloodshed.
