NDMA, Aga Khan Agency of Habitat vow to collaborate for disaster mitigation measures

National Disaster Management Authority and Aga Khan Agency of Habitat have vowed to collaborate for disaster mitigation measures in the country.

The resolve was expressed during meeting of CEO Aga Khan Agency of Habitat Miss Nusrat Nasab with Chairman NDMA Lt General Inam Haider Malik in Islamabad today.

They discussed different aspects of mutual cooperation pertaining to habitat planning and disaster risk mitigation at community level especially in mountainous regions of Pakistan.

The Chairman NDMA suggested to hold a workshop on pre-disaster awareness with technological interface, community level response strategy and Artificial Intelligence based simulation exercises for disaster management.

He underscored the need for an effective framework for geo-monitoring and implementation of response and evacuation plans within scope of Hazard Vulnerability Risk Assessment in GLOF-prone areas due to prevalence of intense heatwaves in region.

The Chairman NDMA mentioned that the National Institute of Disaster Management is helpful in training and research and its branch will also be set up in Gilgit with support of Agha Khan Agency of Habitat as per international standards.

Nusrat Nasab apprised the Chairman of the Agency's network to help communities with pre-disaster education and emergency plans to respond to natural disasters and effects of climate change.

She briefed about the flood donation of 10 million dollars for flood affected people and construction of 3000 prefabricated houses in Gilgit Baltistan.
