Launches stern disconnection drive to recover Rs. 37 Billion unpaid Bills from residential, commercial defaulters

Karachi: Karachi Electric Supply Company has launched a strict disconnection drive for recovery of an unprecedentedly huge outstanding amount of over Rs. 37 billion against defaulting residential and commercial customers.

Under the drive, electricity supply to all defaulters, irrespective of category or quantum, would be disconnected from Aug. 18 onwards. Special teams have been deployed all across the residential and commercial areas of KESC’s coverage zone to disconnect electric supply of defaulters without any exception.

KESC has advised the non-paying consumers to immediately pay their outstanding bills if they did not wish to have their power supply disconnected during the holy month of Ramazan or on the festive occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. By paying their bills before disconnection, such consumers could save themselves from the trouble of having powerless hours at homes and places of business and the hassle of getting the supply reconnected after settling the overdue billing amount.

KESC has said that these huge overdue amounts from customers have adversely impacted utility’s performance up till now. If these funds were made available, KESC would have had a much better cash flow situation enabling it to significantly improve its systems and service to its 20 million customers.

KESC is more concerned about its responsible and honest customers who suffer because of irresponsible defaulters. The present disconnection drive would indiscriminately target all residential and commercial defaulters without any exception and no reconnection will be allowed till all dues are cleared. KESC would not supply free electricity to anyone in the city. Those who don’t pay their bills, will have to live without electricity supply from KESC.
