Karachi Electric Supply Company condemns forced lock up of offices by union: demands immediate and strict as per governments guarantee
Karachi: Karachi Electric Supply Company has strongly condemned the forced lock up of the utility’s offices across the City by union activists on Monday terming it gross violation of the agreed code of conduct and demanded of the government to take strict action in line with the undertaking that the authorities had officially provided.
KESC said that the illegal closing down of all main offices at State Life Building in Saddar, Power House at Elandar Road, all IBCs and almost all local public dealing centres and maintenance departments in all the four regions had adversely affected the utility’s business operations and fault repair work across the City. The union had no authority to pull the shutters down of the utility for any reason or justification, KESC stated, and added that the government needed to take decisive action against union’s lawlessness in order to provide the power utility peaceful and free atmosphere to function.
KESC recalled that at the end of the recent months’ long unrest and disruption, high executive authorities had provided signed guarantee to the effect that the union would never again indulge in any disruptive action that could harm the smooth functioning of the power utility. However, on Monday, the executive authorities and law enforcement agencies took no action when KESC management drew their attention towards the union’s highhandedness. If the government continued with its policy of giving the union free hand to interrupt KESC’s work, then the responsibility of delay in repair work, obstacles in power supply system and all other issues causing the general public to suffer would solely lie with the government and not the management, KESC added.
