Analyst Hails Cordial Relations Between Pakistan and Iran


Islamabad: Amb. Waheed Ahmad (Former Diplomat) Relationship between Pakistan and Iran has been always very cordial and friendly over the past decades. Both the countries have been coordinating and collaborating with each other on almost all regional and international issues. During recent Israeli and American attacks on Iran, our support and cooperation with Iran was overwhelmingly hailed by Iranian parliament and people. Now our relations have touched the peak of heights. Our relations with Iran and Arab world are seen as complementing each other. Iran and Pakistan are neighbor to each other and this is what we are trying to sensitize India and Afghanistan. At present Pakistan is short of funding for Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project. Moreover, there are some sort of US sanctions are also on Iran. I think that Pakistan has consulted Iran regarding coming out of US sanctions. We need to impress upon US to remove these sanctions from Iran as it will generate economic activities between Pakistan and Iran. More
over we need to press upon US to exempt Pakistan from these sanctions so that we may have bilateral trade with Iran.



According to Radio Pakistan, former diplomat Amb. Waheed Ahmad provided insights into the longstanding and cooperative relationship between Pakistan and Iran. Ahmad highlighted that this relationship has remained stable and mutually beneficial, with both countries working closely on various regional and international matters. The recent geopolitical tensions involving Israeli and American actions against Iran were mentioned as a point where Pakistan’s support was well-received by Iranian political entities and its citizens.



Ahmad emphasized the strategic importance of continued collaboration between Pakistan and Iran, especially in the context of their geographical proximity and shared interests. He noted that the Pakistan-Iran relationship is seen in a broader regional context, complementing Pakistan’s ties with the Arab world. This is a narrative Pakistan is keen to promote to neighboring countries like India and Afghanistan.



The diplomat also addressed the challenges facing the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, particularly the financial constraints Pakistan is experiencing. Additionally, Ahmad touched upon the impact of US sanctions on Iran, suggesting that Pakistan has engaged in discussions with Iran to navigate these economic restrictions. He advocated for diplomatic efforts aimed at persuading the US to lift these sanctions, which would facilitate increased economic activity and bilateral trade between Pakistan and Iran.
