Asian Development Bank to continue to support Pakistan

Islamabad, May 13, 2015 (PPI-OT): Vice President Asian Development Bank (ADB) Mr. Wencai Zhang called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at the PM House here this morning. The Prime Minister thanked ADB for the cooperation and the support extended to Pakistan. Mr. Wencai Zhang said Pakistan wants to work with ADB to overcome the challenges being faced by Pakistan especially in the field of energy.

He also apprised the Prime Minister of ADB’s plans and strategy with reference to Pakistan for the next five years. He said ADB supports PML-N’s Vision 2025 and would continue to support Pakistan in important fields like energy, urban transport, solid waste management, waste water management, irrigation, sanitation, regional connectivity, agriculture, rural development, financial sector, capacity building, infrastructure development and disaster management.

He said looking at the emphasis which the current government is laying on education including technical education, ADB is considering providing assistance to Pakistan for developing the social sector. He congratulated the Prime Minister on government’s better macroeconomic indicators due to which economy has stabilized in the last two years. Mr. Wencai Zhang also conveyed condolences of the President ADB to the Prime Minister on the tragic Naltar incident.

Talking about the improved economic condition in the country, the Prime Minister said visit of Chinese President has ushered in a new era of development in the country adding that work has already been started on the implementation of China Pakistan Economic Corridor to complete these projects well within the stipulated time. Federal Minister for Finance, Mr. Ishaq Dar; Chief Minister Punjab, Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif and Secretary EAD also attended.
